Simon Langton on directing Pride and Prejudice

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, Simon Langton discussed directing the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice initially aired in 1995.  The recording was made on 18th April 2013 at Chawton House Library. Listen to the Podcast at podomatic.

Jennifer Ehle was first considered for the Jane Bennet part before being cast as Elizabeth.

2013 Theatre World Awards

Jennifer Ehle and her mother, Rosemary Harris, are the Honorary Chairpersons of the 2013 Theatre World Awards. Jennifer Ehle and a New Project with Jonathan Demme

It seems that Jennifer will be part of the cast for "Old Fires", to be directed by Jonathan Demme this summer.  Details are sketchy at best at this point.  

Some reportage on the film came out last October.

"Written by Heather McGowan (Tadpole), the story centers on a world-renowned architect who, after waking up from a coma in need to physical and mental rehabilitation, tries to repair his damaged relationship with his children and wife.  It’s relatively smaller fare for Demme in the vein of Rachel Getting Married, but it sounds like a promising character-centric pic."

It’s another relatively low-budget feature for Demme, and it’s tentatively scheduled to get underway next summer."

And more recently, in December Jessica Kiang, also at indiewire's The Playlist, reported on comments from a chat with Jonathan Demme at the Marrakech Film Festival. 

 

He described it as "very much a family drama that centers around a middle-aged guy who emerges from a coma that he’s been in for many months and discovers that his family have kind of moved on from him, and he wants them back. He’s both the same person he was before the accident but he’s also in the lucky-to-be-alive club, and he’s fillled with a sense of wonder and is ready to change profoundly." 

    and added, 

"There are many great parts, but first we’re getting the script finished and then we have a very alluring list of candidates." 

Without knowing what parts have been cast, I can only say: Here's to alluring candidates and really wishing a certain someone has the snarky therapist role!

Red Carpet Interview from December 10th

This YouTube video via blacktreemedia shows interviews from the red carpet at the Zero Dark Thirty premiere on December 10th.  Jennifer can be seen to the side during Jessica Chastain's interview, beginning at minute 1:28, and then her own begins around minute 2:20, lasting about a minute an a half. (Yes, it's really Jennifer Ehle though the name wasn't said quite right.) There is another section, lasting about a minute, in which Jennifer speaks about both Zero Dark Thirty and Robocop beginning at minute 8.

Andrea Mandell, USA Today, reported on the Zero Dark Thirty premiere in Los Angeles December 10 and had a quote from Jennifer.

"At the Hollywood premiere held at the Dolby theater, Jennifer Ehle, who plays a similarly dedicated analyst, talked about the women she and Chastain take on. Both were heavily researched by Boal, and like all the characters in the film, are carefully distorted so as not to reveal the real operatives' identities.

"I love that they're women that are not defined by their relationship to a man, which is extremely unusual in a film, especially for a female protagonist, for the part Jessica plays," she said. "They're defined by their relationship with their work."

“Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have again teamed to turn in an excellent feature film that is unlike any procedural thriller I have seen before, both in its intensity and sense of realism.”

“Zero Dark Thirty, however, is energy, ambition and meticulous craftsmanship on the part of Bigelow, Boal and their collaborators.”

“I can't imagine a scenario at the moment where Mark Boal doesn't win for Zero Dark Thirty. Boal has crafted a screenplay that is unflinching and manages to tell a very serious story that sells its emotion based on the details and characters without resorting to over-dramatization.”
